The three concept bridges commissioned by STRABAG in Oberpullendorf presented a technical challenge that had never been implemented before. Due to project requirements all three bridges had to be made in a single pour. In traditional bridge construction, a foundation, necessary supports and an abutment are built and the superstructure is placed on these elements. The individual construction steps are realized step by step, with each element being built on top of the already completed elements.
The Oberpullendorf construction project with a total weight of 980 tons deviated completely from this traditional bridge construction method. In Oberpullendorf, the entire bridge construction was built in a single pour. The entire construction of each bridge, which was reinforced with between approximately 120 and 170 tons, was laid out, shuttered, and then concreted in one go. This approach was a technical innovation for both STRABAG and BEST.
The realization of this project was only possible through the use of prefabricated elements. The entire know-how of BEST in this sector was required. During this demanding project, the collaboration between the construction management and the laying teams, worked out excellently, from the construction management level to the helpers.
.
The project was even completed 1/3 faster than planned and the client was completely satisfied. After the project was completed, Director Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG, personally visited the construction site to praise the excellent laying performance.
According to the laying team manager Markus Stranzinger, a lot of experience was gained during this challenging project, which will also be used in future projects.
