Pile contract contributing to Vienna's transport network future

The expansion of the Vienna underground network represents the largest pile cage order in the BEST Group's history. Pile cages and to a lesser extent, slotted wall cages with a total weight of 6000 tonnes were produced for the stations of the U2.

The City of Vienna itself described the U2 and U5 extension project as the most important public transport project in Vienna since the ground-breaking ceremony for the U1 construction 50 years ago.

BEST contributed to the U2 line extension with a new southern branch - the first construction phase took place from Vienna town hall via the stations Neubaugasse, Pilgramgasse and Reinprechtsdorferstraße to Matzleinsdorfer-Platz.

During the project, a large number of installation sites had to be supplied with different pile cages. In many situations space was very limited, being located in the inner-city area of the federal capital. Precise delivery was therefore a prerequisite for a smooth construction process.

For these construction sites a variety of pile types with calibres up to 36 mm, often with multi-layer reinforcement were produced . Excess lengths were also used. The large drilling depths required multipart pile cages that had to exactly fit.

An order volume where up to seven rotary drilling rigs were supplied with pile cages at the same time was only possible using several pile welding machines simultaneously. BEST production was running at full speed in shifts to be able to produce the required daily quantities.

The project was supervised by the experienced BEST technicians and workload preparation teams also prooved to be able to handle the variety and quantity of pile baskets during a project of this scale.

They provided piles could be delivered on time in the required quantity and quality for the contracting consortium successfully.
